Take a look at the umpire’s face again. In this closeup, his face does not register that he has anything in his eye. He is not yet aware that there is anything wrong with what he is seeing.
All too often we can be so focused on an error, or perceived error, that we are blind to a fault that we have even when it is right in front of our face. We are not aware that we have drifted from being a loving brother or sister and slowly started becoming a hypocrite. We are all in danger of becoming that Christian everyone starts avoiding.
Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. Matthew 7:4-5
Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting! Psalm 139:23-24
